Your
research skills – Strengths and Weakness
The strengths and weakness regarding the research depends on
the websites that was used for the facts and statistics. Some of the websites
that I used for the research could have been more unreliable than others, for
example I had used Wikianswers.com and Wikipedia.com for some of the facts and
statistics which could have been a weakness as although they are the easiest
websites to get information from they are not always the truest. On the other
hand, I visited websites such as BBC and the Guardian for Artist’s opinions and
statistics, these are more reliable and stronger for the magazine article.
Journalistic
and writing skills – Strengths and Weakness
The strengths and weaknesses for the writing task only differ
a small amount. Although I enjoyed writing the article, I was worried that some
of the language may have been too informal or formal for the target audience.
Although, despite the informality of the language, rhetorical questions are
often used in magazine or newspaper articles which may be classed as a strength
in journalism. Another weakness though, I tend to go off topic sometimes or
write irrelevant things which may make the work look more unprofessional.
InDesign
skills and weaknesses
The indesign skills that I had learnt from the induction were
how to really create an article design. For example, I had learnt how to present
columns, create headings and apply photos to the article, this could be seen as
strength – but on the other hand, I feel that creating a professional-looking
double-spread was much harder then I first perceived. Getting the balance
between font, photos and background was more complicated because I didn’t want
over-power the page and make it look unprofessional.
Web
publishing skills Strengths and weakness
I personally think that if I was on a tight budget I would
have the magazine printed in the United Kingdom only but also distributed
online for over-sea viewers. Printing would have its advantages and
disadvantages regarding cost the paper wastage. Companies would have to be paid
to make the magazine and distributors would be paid a share to sell it. Where
as some customers may like the feeling of just reading the magazine, having it
in their hands to hold opposed to the simple and free website magazine what
hasn’t got the appealing factor of being held and flipped through. But, if I
had to pick one – I would choose my magazine to be printed, I would lose money
but, still gain money too.
Audience Feedback
The feedback that I was given for my article/double-spread
was more positive. Some of the comments that I had received was mainly about
the appearance rather than the actual writing itself. Some of the comments
consisted of the types of photos that I had used was relevant to the article
and the layout was clean and clear although some of the page was bare and could
of used colour too. This was helpful because it helps me in the future to make
sure that space was used efficiently and cleanly also, to make sure that it is
more appealing colour wise. Although, it was said that the heading are
eye-catching and draws attention to the article.
Improvements:
Four targets for improvements that I would like would be too
be able to really use InDesign, to learn how to use it to a point where my
products would look more realistic and professional. Also, I would like to make
sure that I only get my research from reliable sources and make sure that
Wikipedia is the last choice. I also want to make sure that when I’m writing
further articles or products that my writing is always more professional
depending on the topic or audience, and generally I would just like to make
sure that I improve everything.
